RealtyTrac released our February 2006 foreclosure numbers today, and they show U.S. Indiana and Colorado werent too far behind, with one new foreclosure for every 427 households in Indiana, and one new foreclosure for every 443 households in Colorado. Together, the two states documented more than 23,000 new foreclosures, 20 percent of all new foreclosures across the country. foreclosures increasing for the third month in a row. The Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight (thank goodness for acronyms) on Thursday released home price appreciation statistics for the first quarter of 2006, which show that U.S. The OFHEO report ranks the 50 states and the District of Columbia basedon year-over-year home price appreciation. Many of the states near thebottom of that list -- namely Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, A new report shows a strong correlation between slow home priceappreciation and high foreclosure rates, although its clear thecorrelation does not involve a direct cause-and-effect relationship.

FBI: Mortgage Fraud Begets Foreclosure
The FBI recently came out with its 2006 Mortgage Fraud Report , which somewhat anticlimactically concludes that there is “a strong correlation between mortgage fraud and loans which result in default or foreclosure.” The correlation is apparent in the report’s list of the top states for mortgage fraud: California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, New York, Ohio, Texas, and Utah. Foreclosure Filings Soar 90 Percent
