Florida Homeowners Overconfident Despite Foreclosures?
That report showed a 24 percent drop in home sales both year-to-date and year-over-year through May 2006. Yet despite lower sales volume, FAR also reported that the states median home price continues to go up -- 11 percent on a yearly basis from May 2005, and 15 percent year-to-date, giving some credence to the 71 percent of homeowners surveyed by The Fund who believe that affordability is the biggest obstacle to homeownership in the state. Such consumer confidence does Results of a new study released last week by Attorneys Title Insurance Fund (The Fund) suggests that Florida homeowners are feeling pretty good nowadays about the value of their homes and the potential for those values to rise further in the future.

Money magazine came out last week with another of its Top 10 lists; this one called "America’s Best Places to Live 2006 ." That’s more than all the for sale by owner, resale and new homes listed on RealtyTrac in Fort Collins The rest of Money’s Top 10 list includes: 2) Naperville, Ill.; 2) Sugar Land, Texas; 4) Columbia and Endicott City, Md.; And the winner is . . . Fort Collins, Colorado.

Foreclosure Filings Soar 90 Percent
Saccacio, chief executive officer of RealtyTrac, said a jump in foreclosures at a time of year that traditionally is the busiest for home sales means the slide in prices probably isn't over. “Such strong activity in the midst of the typical spring buying season could foreshadow even higher foreclosure levels later in the year,” said Saccacio. “Certainly percent, down 11 basis points from the previous quarter, but up 43 basis points from the first quarter of 2006. A growing number of American homeowners across the country are getting foreclosure notices, according to new data released this week by RealtyTrac.

FBI: Mortgage Fraud Begets Foreclosure
The FBI recently came out with its 2006 Mortgage Fraud Report , which somewhat anticlimactically concludes that there is “a strong correlation between mortgage fraud and loans which result in default or foreclosure.” The correlation is apparent in the report’s list of the top states for mortgage fraud: California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, New York, Ohio, Texas, and Utah.
