Thanksgiving a Time to Reflect . . . on Foreclosures Too!
In fact we have only reported foreclosures through October and the national total has already topped 1 million with two months left to report — way ahead of the 885,000 foreclosures reported for all of 2005. And the projections are that there will be much more foreclosure activity in 2007 and 2008, especially as the effects of an estimated $1 trillion in “exotic” adjustable-rate mortgages start being felt. Traditionally, Thanksgiving is a time we take to reflect on our lives and what we can do to make the world a better place in which to live. Volunteers go out and serve meals

Fed Plays a Delicate Balancing Game With Rate Cut
The problem is, many industry analysts are starting to come around to the idea that this “correction” may not bottom out until either year’s end 2008 or sometime in 2009. Today’s action, combined with the policy action taken in September, should help forestall some of the adverse effects on the broader economy that might otherwise arise from the disruptions in financial markets and promote moderate growth over time,” the FOMC said in a statement published October 31. In a move aimed at quelling fears of a looming recession, the Federal Open Market Committee took the country’s teetering monetary affairs seriously two weeks ago and lowered the short term federal funds rate another quarter of a percentage point to 4.5

Credit Card and Mortgage Debt Fuels Foreclosure
Not surprisingly, more than 115,568 properties entered some stage of foreclosure nationwide in October, according to RealtyTrac’s U.S. Rising interest rates have caught many homeowners in a “can’t pay, can’t sell, can’t refinance” vise, in which their ARM payments are outpacing their incomes and their homes have not appreciated enough to help cover the cost of a refinanced mortgage or to allow them to sell and walk away. Debt! No word better describes why millions of Americans are now facing foreclosure.

California Foreclosures 2007: Steady As She Goes
The state hit its peak towards the end of the year, taking the nation’s top spot for September, October and November. Only a slight uptick in job creation throughout California is expected, along with low housing affordability, a larger inventory of unsold houses, declining home prices, lower sales volume and less residential construction. Even with interest rates remaining at or near historically low levels — thanks to the Federal Reserve — Esmael Adibi, Through November, RealtyTrac tallied nearly 130,000 properties that entered some stage of foreclosure in California alone during 2006; accounting for roughly 11 percent of the nation’s foreclosures for the same period.

A 'Dialogue' on the Housing Market
Chief among those — local economic conditions, poor planning for the future by home buyers, and rising interest rates. The nation’s foreclosure total already broke the 1 million glass ceiling in October , and just how high foreclosure levels will go in 2007 is open to debate depending on how steep one believes the downturn will be. “When Still, owners of million-dollar properties, generally speaking, will normally have more cushion to work with in cutting Appearing on a recent episode of “Dialogue with Jim Doti”, RealtyTrac CEO James Saccacio cited a number of factors for the more than 60 percent year-to-year increase in foreclosure activity in September 2006.

And the Hits' Just Keep On Coming!
Now with the first week of October behind us, Citigroup, Washington Mutual (WaMu as it likes to be known) and Merrill Lynch announced their organizations would be taking major hits in the pocketbook for the third quarter of 2007. As for distressed homeowners facing foreclosure into the foreseeable future, these types of problems on the lender’s side of the transaction are probably going to make it more difficult for them to refinance or restructure their financial situation in order to save their homes. Countrywide. Citigroup.
