Foreclosures Don't Back Down in September
RealtyTrac’s monthly foreclosure report shows 112,210 properties entering some stage of foreclosure during September, a decrease of less than 1 percent from August but an increase of more than 63 percent from September 2005. Colorado, Nevada and Michigan posted the highest state foreclosure rates, and California reported the most foreclosure activity of any state in terms of sheer numbers.     CNNMoney reported last Tuesday that Fannie’s CEO Daniel Mudd is optimistic overall about the company’s future, but sees more challenges lying ahead for the rest of 2008 and possibly beyond. “As As a result of the losses, Fannie is revising its forecast for home price declines from a 5 to 7 percent loss nationally for all of 2008, to a 7 to 9 percent loss for the year, with significant regional differences in the rate of home price declines.   • MBA Survey Confirms Q1 Foreclosure Surge
    The first quarter MBA National Delinquency Survey released today largely supports the findings of the RealtyTrac Q1 2008 U.S. The total number of properties with foreclosure filings in the RealtyTrac April report was the highest monthly total since RealtyTrac began issuing the report in January 2005. Both the RealtyTrac and MBA reports identified Ohio and Michigan as states where foreclosure activity decreased in the first quarter. Foreclosure Market Report released at the end of April, which found overall foreclosure activity increased 23 percent from the fourth quarter of 2007 and 112 percent from the first quarter of 2007.

  • FBI: Mortgage Fraud Begets Foreclosure
    The correlation is apparent in the report’s list of the top states for mortgage fraud: California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, New York, Ohio, Texas, and Utah. The FBI also lists Arizona, Colorado, Maryland, Minnesota, Missouri, Nevada, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia as other areas significantly affected by mortgage fraud. The report identifies the most common scam as “illegal property flipping.” The FBI recently came out with its 2006 Mortgage Fraud Report , which somewhat anticlimactically concludes that there is “a strong correlation between mortgage fraud and loans which result in default or foreclosure.”
