Foreclosure Activity Up 7 Percent in March
The March total — which includes default notices, auction sale notices and bank repossessions — was the highest monthly total since RealtyTrac began issuing its report in January 2005 and resulted in a foreclosure rate of one foreclosure filing for every 775 U.S. California also documented the most foreclosure filings of any state, 31,434, and California cities accounted for six out of the top 10 metro foreclosure rates. With 149,150 foreclosure filings reported nationwide in March, U.S. foreclosure activity was up 7 percent from the previous month and 47 percent from a year ago,

The folks at Money say it’s because the city, “combines the vibrancy of a city with the comforts of the suburbs — good jobs and schools, a lively downtown, reasonable cost of living and, up there in the Rockies, an incredible outdoor life — it’s the kind of place people want to live in.” Money’s writers and editors selected from an initial pool of 745 “livable” cities with populations of more than 50,000 with good jobs, low crime, quality schools, plenty of open space, lots to do, AND rational home prices. Money magazine came out last week with another of its Top 10 lists; this one called "America’s Best Places to Live 2006 ."

U.S. Foreclosure Activity Surges in First Quarter
The report documents a total of 437,498 foreclosure filings, which include default notices, auction notices and bank repossessions, during the quarter and a quarterly foreclosure rate of one foreclosure filing for every 264 households — the highest quarterly foreclosure rate since RealtyTrac began issuing its report more than two years ago. Other cities with foreclosure rates among the top 10 included Las Vegas, Riverside-San Bernardino, Calif., U.S. foreclosure activity in the first quarter of 2007 was up 35 percent from the first quarter of 2006, according to the RealtyTrac U.S.

Extreme' Dream Gone Bust
ABC’s Extreme Makeover Home Edition came to the rescue, demolishing the Harper’s old run down home with a faulty septic tank and replacing it with a 5,300 square-foot, two-story dream home in Lake City, Georgia. When the show first aired back on February 20, 2005, the home was the largest ever built in a week by the show.
