Foreclosures in Money's 'Best Places to Live'
The folks at Money say it’s because the city, “combines the vibrancy of a city with the comforts of the suburbs — good jobs and schools, a lively downtown, reasonable cost of living and, up there in the Rockies, an incredible outdoor life — it’s the kind of place people want to live in.” Money’s writers and editors selected from an initial pool of 745 “livable” cities with populations of more than 50,000 with good jobs, low crime, quality schools, plenty of open space, lots to do, AND rational home prices. Money magazine came out last week with another of its Top 10 lists; this one called "America’s Best Places to Live 2006 ."

Local Market Perspective: Cape Coral, Fla.
The opportunity to own a home at affordable prices has never been greater, but getting to the closing table is so much more difficult. Many of the best deals in our area are bank-owned properties. In our city, the bank has taken the property back but they may not have paid all the liens from our code enforcement and generally speaking that does not come up until the final title search is done, so a delay is normal. Editor's Note: This is the first in a series of guest blog posts from members of the RealtyTrac Agent Network . The agents will be sharing their insights

Local Market Perspective: Seattle, Wash.
Here are some things to keep in mind when investing in the Seattle market: Land is an extremely limited resource in this city. Seattle did not experience the “urban sprawl” boom seen in so many other cities plagued with foreclosure woes. say this all the time to my buyers, at auction there is a huge crowd competing over six to 10 properties. Over the past three months, my clients and I have presented nine contracts to pre-foreclosure, REO and short sale sellers. Out of those nine contracts, nine have been beat by better offers.

Make Food, Not Foreclosures
Taja Seville, founder of Urban Farming, says the gardens cultivated would be left unfenced to allow people to pick their own produce. The pilot program would start with 20 plots, with the City of Detroit donating the water. The properties where the farms are located are left available for sale, but in the meantime the properties are being productive and cared for by group volunteers. Posted 06-11-2008 4:30 A non-profit group has launched a program to turn former foreclosures into farmland. National Public Radio is reporting that the non-profit

Stacking Up 2007 Metro Foreclosure Rates
Four Ohio cities were in the top 20: Cleveland at No. Even at this zoom level (which doesnt even capture the entire city), it appears that the foreclosure properties are stacked on top of each other in some areas. Of course if a large number of people do that it could flood the rental market and drive down rental rates. It was the usual suspects topping the 2007 MSA Foreclosure Rate Rankings released by RealtyTrac today.

A Small Silver Lining in Q1 Foreclosure Storm
Foreclosure activity in Detroit was down nearly 4 percent from the first quarter of 2007, although the citys foreclosure rate still ranked No. That in turn allows lenders to start unloading foreclosure inventory, easing a heavy burden that has been weighing down the citys housing market. Different forces may be at work in Philadelphia, helping that citys foreclosure rate remain relatively low. View full Q1 2008 foreclosure While foreclosure activity in the first quarter of 2008 was up on a year-over-year basis in 90 percent of the nations 100 largest metropolitan areas, according to the RealtyTrac Q1 report issued today, there were a few notable exceptions that could prove to be a harbinger of hope for the nations battered housing market.
