Money magazine came out last week with another of its Top 10 lists; this one called "America’s Best Places to Live 2006 ." According to the latest data on the RealtyTrac website, Fort Collins has only 20 properties in the pre-foreclosure stage, but 226 properties are ready to go to auction and another 156 are bank owned (REO). That’s more than all the for sale by owner, resale and new homes listed on RealtyTrac in Fort Collins The rest of Money’s And the winner is . . . Fort Collins, Colorado.

U.S. Foreclosure Activity Surges in First Quarter
The report documents a total of 437,498 foreclosure filings, which include default notices, auction notices and bank repossessions, during the quarter and a quarterly foreclosure rate of one foreclosure filing for every 264 households — the highest quarterly foreclosure rate since RealtyTrac began issuing its report more than two years ago. FBI: Mortgage Fraud Begets Foreclosure
The correlation is apparent in the report’s list of the top states for mortgage fraud: California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, New York, Ohio, Texas, and Utah. The property ends up in foreclosure with the bank eating the loss. The FBI recently came out with its 2006 Mortgage Fraud Report , which somewhat anticlimactically concludes that there is “a strong correlation between mortgage fraud and loans which result in default or foreclosure.” Six of those states also appeared in RealtyTrac’s list of states with the highest foreclosure rates in 2006.
