2006 Foreclosure Filings Surpass 1.2 Million
Texas reported 156,876 foreclosure filings during the year, the most of any state and nearly 13 percent of the national total. California and Florida ranked second and third in total foreclosure filings for the year. Detroit’s 40,219 foreclosure filings in 2006 represented nearly 5 percent of the city’s households — the highest rate among the nation’s 100 largest metropolitan areas. New foreclosure activity in January hit its highest level since RealtyTrac began issuing a national foreclosure report two years ago, with 130,511 new foreclosure filings reported during the month. Substantial increases in foreclosure activity in Detroit and Atlanta helped drive up the foreclosure rates in Michigan and Georgia. U.S. Foreclosure Activity Surges in First Quarter
The report documents a total of 437,498 foreclosure filings, which include default notices, auction notices and bank repossessions, during the quarter and a quarterly foreclosure rate of one foreclosure filing for every 264 households — the highest quarterly foreclosure rate since RealtyTrac began issuing its report more than two years ago. Foreclosure Filings Soar 90 Percent
