The Government Goes After Loan Officers
For example, the SEC could limit its investigation to mortgages that were foreclosed within the first 12 to 18 months after origination. The one public example of such an audit that we know of revealed stunning results. Stated income loans hurt everyone, the home buyer, the institution who buys the loan on the secondary market, and even the home shopper who does not inflate their income to purchase a home. How Much for Those Lender Assets in the Window?
billion in home equity loans and lines of credit. lot of loan servicers, accountants and attorneys are going to be working nights and weekends to get the work done.” As an example, the surprise in the WAMU deal was not the high default rates for subprime or option ARMs, rather it was the huge losses associated with home equity lending. For months lenders have been cutting off access to home equity lines of credit (HELOCs) and reducing available credit levels. How Much for Those Lender Assets in the Window? By Peter G. Miller

No Mortgage Meltdown For These Banks
Loans can be brought current and homes can be sold or refinanced to avoid foreclosure. As one example, Hermance says that of 50,000 New Jersey mortgages his bank bought back just two properties during a recent 12-month period. The alternative is what we see today: Mortgages for everyone and the search for short-term lender profits, followed by a financial carnage that destroys home prices, devalues pensions, destroys jobs and undermines the value of the dollar. ____________________ Peter No Mortgage Meltdown For These Banks By Peter G. No Place Like Home
Two natural disasters that severely impacted Kansas homes this year have brought the issue to the forefront. Edmiston attributed the rising foreclosures to three factors: a greater share of nonprime mortgages, which inherently come with higher default rates; payment shock that comes when non-traditional mortgage products reset to higher monthly payments; and the low amount of equity in many homes. Edmiston provided an eye-opening example of how a monthly mortgage payment on As state Rep. Tom Borroughs noted this week at a housing conference here, Kansas is not on the cutting edge

High-End Foreclosures Rising Among Top Tier Homes By Octavio Nuiry, RealtyTrac Staff Writer Until now, the foreclosure crisis was confined to a narrow niche of middle-class urban communities and outer-rim new housing developments where first-time homeowners and real estate speculators benefited briefly from favorable financing. This is just the tip of the iceberg.” McCabe believes that delinquencies and defaults will rise not only among subprime borrowers, but among prime mortgages, Alt-A loans, teaser rate loans and low money-down

Priced to Foreclose
A new report shows a strong correlation between slow home priceappreciation and high foreclosure rates, although its clear thecorrelation does not involve a direct cause-and-effect relationship. The OFHEO report ranks the 50 states and the District of Columbia basedon year-over-year home price appreciation.

Michael Jackson Property in Default
Fox News is reporting that Michael Jackson has received a notice of pending foreclosure on a home he owns in Encino, Calif. — the home where his parents live. Take San Diego, for example, where the median price of a home jumped from $249,000 to $567,000 in five years (2000-2005).
