  • Thieves Have the New Foreclosure Math Down
Public officials have taken notice as well and are proposing legislation to deal with the situation, including holding lending institutions financially responsible for the upkeep of their REO properties until such time as they sell. Some places have even proposed that the lenders pay a registration fee for every foreclosed property when it comes back to the bank. It doesn’t take a mental giant to do the new math of the foreclosure crisis. As a matter of fact, it’s as easy as two plus two.

  • Jackson Takes a Final Bow at HUD
After that, Alphonso Jackson will probably be looking for something a little less in the public eye…at least for a while. Jackson gave notice on Monday of his intention to step down as secretary of the U.S. These “HUD homes,” like any homes that go back to a lender who forecloses, are a good potential pool of resources for investors and wannabe homebuyers looking to purchase bargain real estate. Kelley, sent out an official notice last Tuesday requesting that all state licensees in the financial services industry clean up any stagnant water located around vacant properties — many of which are foreclosures. One of the downsides of taking back foreclosed properties for the lender is the obligation and cost associated with managing those REOs — some of which are bound to be vacant for a while, especially with the extended time it is currently taking to sell real estate in the Golden State. Not only are foreclosures unhealthy for the economy, apparently they can be unhealthy for people as well.

  • Foreclosure Activity Deflating or Just Deferred?
Meanwhile, REO (bank repossession) activity actually decreased on a YOY basis in January and February of 2007 but gradually started to gain momentum in the second half of 2007, and increases in REOs have far outpaced the increases in defaults and auctions in all six months of 2008. • CO Gives Owners More Time to Fix Foreclosure
In the past, Colorado homeowners had 45 to 60 days from the commencement of foreclosure proceedings — initiated by what is called a notice of election and demand — to cure the loan by making all past-due payments along with late charges and other costs. This redemption period allowed homeowners who had been foreclosed on to buy back their homes after the public foreclosure sale by paying the winning bidder the amount of the winning bid. “For A state law that took effect Jan. 1
