Foreclosures up 13 percent in February
RealtyTrac released our February 2006 foreclosure numbers today, and they show U.S. foreclosures increasing for the third month in a row. We show 117,259 properties nationwide entered some stage of foreclosure in February, a 13 percent increase from the previous month and a 68 percent increase from February 2005. March Goes Out Like a Lamb
Whichever way you choose to view it, the good news is that the national foreclosure rate dropped by 13% in March, according to the RealtyTrac U.S. Foreclosure Report, which was issued earlier today. Even with the drop, over 100,000 new properties entered some stage of foreclosure in March, and the foreclosure rate still represented a 63% increase over March 2005. FDIC Selling Off Detroit Inventory
So it’s no wonder that it has no time to play nursemaid to a bunch of foreclosed real estate in foreclosure-laden Detroit, Mich. With one in every 176 households receiving a foreclosure filing during July, the Detroit metro area had the 18th highest foreclosure rate among the 230 MSAs reported by RealtyTrac for the month. California Tops PMI's Risk Index
The San Diego-Carlsbad-San Marcos, CA, and Oakland-Fremont-Hayward, CA, metro areas tied for second place with a score of 603. Rounding out the top 10 with their scores were: Nassau-Suffolk, NY (601); Riverside-San Bernardino-Ontario, CA (600); Los Angeles-Long Beach-Glendale, CA (597); Boston-Quincy, MA (595); Providence-New Bedford-Fall River, RI-MA (595); and San Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara, CA (592).
