Credit Card and Mortgage Debt Fuels Foreclosure
Add mounting mortgage payments to the credit card debt and a gloomier picture emerges for overextended borrowers — in part because so many homeowners are now trapped by payments that are about to soar, even as the real estate market slumps. Among the hardest-hit states were California, Florida, Texas, Michigan, Illinois and Ohio. Debt! No word better describes why millions of Americans are now facing foreclosure.

Tread Caringly, Ye Goode Investors
has been stumping in Ohio, a very important state in terms of picking up delegates. Three mental states that legitimate real estate investors should be keenly aware of when dealing with distressed homeowners on the verge of losing their homes. Although Clinton is using it for political gain, it’s a good reminder for real estate investors. There is no doubt that foreclosures are on the radar screen of all three leading presidential candidates these days — although probably more publicly on the Democratic side of the aisle, where the subject has been discussed constantly during many television debates.

ARM'd and Dangerous?
Jonathan does his usual fine job of trying to help everyone keep the numbers in context. And it probably accounts in large part for whats happeningin states like Ohio, Michigan and Indiana. Often a bellweather of the real estate market, California willprobably be the state to watch as all of this unfolds, given the sheervolume of the market, the sky-high housing prices and the number ofnon-traditional loans. Another nice post from Jonathan Miller on his Matrix blog, "Foreclose Already So We Can Get Back To Normal" ( http://matrix.millersamuel.com/?p=568 p=568

I'll Take Sour Cream and Chives
The five: California, Florida (the hanging chad capital of the western world), Michigan, Ohio and Georgia. Just an FYI: in the upcoming 2008 presidential election, California will have 55 electoral votes, Florida 27, Michigan 17, Ohio 20 and Georgia 15. However, the CNNMoney.com report does go on to say that Edwards has been an outspoken critic of subprime lenders and vows to help those victims. No butter for me. Personally, I like my hot baked potato covered with sour cream and chives.

BK' Doesn't Stand for Burger King
Of ABI’s top 10 states with the highest per capita filing rate for 2007, four of them — Georgia, Michigan, Ohio and Nevada — were also some of RealtyTrac’s top 10 foreclosure states for much of the year. Whether the net result is a short sale, a walk away or going through the whole foreclosure process, it seems like the foreclosure fires are likely to be fanned still higher, with more properties being available for home buyers and investors looking to find a bargain in many parts of the country for the foreseeable future.
