MBA Survey Confirms Q1 Foreclosure Surge
The first quarter MBA National Delinquency Survey released today largely supports the findings of the RealtyTrac Q1 2008 U.S. Foreclosure Market Report released at the end of April, which found overall foreclosure activity increased 23 percent from the fourth quarter of 2007 and 112 percent from the first quarter of 2007. That closely mirrored the trend in MBA’s foreclosure rate, which put the percentage of loans in the percent at the end of the first quarter, up 21 percent from the 2.04 percent reported in the fourth quarter of 2007 and up

FBI: Mortgage Fraud Begets Foreclosure
The correlation is apparent in the report’s list of the top states for mortgage fraud: California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, New York, Ohio, Texas, and Utah. Six of those states also appeared in RealtyTrac’s list of states with the highest foreclosure rates in 2006. The FBI also lists Arizona, Colorado, Maryland, Minnesota, Missouri, Nevada, North Carolina, The FBI recently came out with its 2006 Mortgage Fraud Report , which somewhat anticlimactically concludes that there is “a strong correlation between mortgage fraud and loans which result in default or foreclosure.”

Foreclosure Filings Soar 90 Percent
A growing number of American homeowners across the country are getting foreclosure notices, according to new data released this week by RealtyTrac. Saccacio, chief executive officer of RealtyTrac, said a jump in foreclosures at a time of year that traditionally is the busiest for home sales means the slide in prices probably isn't over. “Such strong activity in the midst of the typical spring buying season could foreshadow even higher foreclosure levels later in the year,” said Saccacio. “Certainly U.S. foreclosure filings surged 90 percent in May from

I'll Take Sour Cream and Chives
Nowadays, I may have to add a side of presidential politics too! In yesterdays local NBC morning newscast, Bob Pisani, Wall Street correspondent for CNBC , called foreclosures the “hot potato of the political season.” RealtyTrac’s latest numbers released this morning show that the top five states with the highest number of foreclosure filings in July accounted for 55 percent of all foreclosure filings in the country. Fannie: Q1 a Swift Kick in the Rear
And as with many corporations in this country, the national economy is kicking Fannie around…fast and hard! One of the nation’s two Government Sponsored Enterprises (GSEs), Fannie reported a first quarter net loss of $2.2 billion — attributable at least in part to an increased number of foreclosures. It may have been created and chartered by the federal government, but Fannie Mae (the Federal National Mortgage Association) is first and foremost a private company responsible to shareholders for running at a profit. Although an improvement over

July Foreclosure Report
Bank Repossessions (REOs) accounted for 28 percent of all activity during the month, while defaults accounted for 41 percent and auction notices accounted for 31 percent. That is in contrast to REOs accounting for just 16 percent of all activity in July 2007, while defaults in July 2007 were still at 41 percent and auction notices were at 43 percent. This shift in percentages shows that a higher proportion U.S. foreclosure activity in July increased 8 percent from the previous month and 55 percent from July 2007, according to the RealtyTrac Foreclosure Market Report released today.
