  • Foreclosures Thrive in Third Quarter
    With home price appreciation slowing and the inventory of unsold homes expanding, the third quarter proved to be fertile ground for sprouting foreclosures, according to RealtyTrac’s quarterly foreclosure market report . More than 300,000 new foreclosure filings were reported nationwide during the quarter, up 17 percent from the previous quarter and up 43 percent from the third quarter of 2005.     Home prices on existing single-family homes continued to sink further into the abyss nationally during the first quarter of 2008, according to two leading industry indicators. The Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight (OFHEO) reported last week that prices fell 1.7 percent for the quarter, the largest quarterly price decline on record, based solely on purchase-only transactions (without refinancings).
